5 Basic Tips to Spring Clean Your Body

The signs of spring are everywhere. Robins are singing. Flowers are blooming. Now is the perfect time to work on spring cleaning our insides, just like we do in our homes (link to spring cleaning blog article)!

When we spend a season of sitting around more – staying indoors while the great outdoors is all blustery and cold – our bodies accumulate a lot of “dirt and grime” on the inside. The result is we have low energy, frequent illnesses, and headaches. Plus body aches and grumpiness add to the mix.

Here are five basic tips to spring clean your body.

Simply pick one of these to get started. Do each new thing for three weeks in a row to establish your new lifestyle. In the end, you will feel healthier, energized, and ready to conquer the world!

Detox your body for higher functioning organs.

You can choose a store-bought detox, research a DIY one, or start simple with intermittent fasting. Just giving our bodies a break for a few days or more from the onslaught of food and drinks we throw into them can guide us into some much-needed healing.

Drink green tea daily, cold or hot, even sweetened with honey or stevia. Add a green leafy salad each day to sweep out the bad stuff.

Your organs, including your skin, will thank you by working as they are designed to and not running so sluggish.

This is such an energy booster too!

Eat and drink healthy for renewed energy.

You’ve heard the saying “you are what you eat”. Turns out, it’s true! When we eat mostly junk food, snack often, and don’t pay attention to nutrition, it all adds up. We get overweight, unhappy, and feel drained.

By changing up what we put into our bodies, we have higher energy levels. From nutritious foods and drinks complete with

essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber, we feel fuller and more satisfied too.

Start by just reading food and drink labels and choose healthier options. Go back to the basics like we ate when we were toddlers: vegetables, fruits, some fish or meat or a healthy vegan protein alternative, plus a few types of grains.

Cut out artificial sweeteners, syrups, food colorings, and fried foods. Do some quick online research of healthy food and beverage options, including raw and organic.

It is that simple. And here’s a secret: the longer you do this, the easier it gets!

Fresh air and sunshine for increased Vitamin D.


Go out into the great outdoors! Every day for up to 30 minutes is all it takes. Take your breaks or eat lunch outside. Go for a stroll. Find something fun to do outside. Pull up a chair and chat with a friend or neighbor. Warning: do not get a sunburn.

Exercise for increased blood and oxygen flow.

Another simple thing to do and it doesn’t have to cost anything.

Just take a daily walk in your neighborhood, park, or work parking lot. Begin with a slow pace and gradually increase to a brisk walk. Start with 15 minutes and build up to 30 minutes total a day.

Other options include tennis, bicycling, or jogging. Or follow a workout video inside your home. Just find something to do that you enjoy and commit to it five days a week for 30-60 minutes at a time.

Be sure to include some light stretches afterwards to cool down and increase flexibility!

Learn something new for better brain power.

When we expand our minds by learning new things, versus doing the same ol’ same ol’ day in and day out, it keeps our brains healthier, growing, and more active!

Start with fun challenging Sudoku or crossword books, jigsaw puzzles, and board games.

Find something interesting that you do not already know. 

How about art of music lessons? Computer coding? Foreign language? A country or culture? Just choose one thing. Then check out a library book or buy one and study. Search for online tutorials. Or attend a class or private instruction.

Spring cleaning our bodies and minds is just as essential for our well-being as refreshing our homes.
